Remote storage of collected data

These devices may not have local storage present.

Remote control over data collection

These devices may not have shell access.  Further, users may want to take measurements on multiple devices concurrently.

Low-overhead data collection

Since these devices are often resource constrained.

Support for offline analysis

The analysis of collected measurements would be best done in a more capable desktop or server environment.

Support for diverse PMC hardware

These devices typically use a variety of system designs.

Forward & backward API compatibility

These devices may be using older versions of Mensurae but may need work with a later version of Mensurae’s control software running on a server or desktop.

Forward & backward data compatibility

The data generated by these devices should be usable on a server or desktop that is running a different version of Mensurae.

Zero-configuration / Auto-discovery

When Mensurae is enabled on the device, it should be easy for control software running elsewhere to find the device on the network and connect to it.
